About B&C

Bensasson & Chalmers specialises in the development and support of software systems for the management and control of business operations. It was founded as a consultancy in Cambridge in 1979 and supplied its first software application to a local government client in 1983 and now has over 20 years' experience of providing solutions to a wide variety of organisations of all sizes.

The company’s LAMP product was developed as a sophisticated, flexible and integrated system to assist managers to comprehensively monitor their business and administrative operations. The system facilitates effective management and the decision making process at all levels of the organisation by providing access to vital service and resource information. PROMAN, which monitors services from the client's aspect, was developed from the wide experience of public sector operations that LAMP provided.

As well as delivering software, B&C also offers its clients a comprehensive service, including the provision of user training. Clients are also encouraged to feed back their experiences into on-going product development. As well as training, support and general advice the company can also assist with bespoke modifications, the creation of reports and the development of interfaces with other products, such as general ledger systems.

B&C Trivia

  • The company is named after its founders John Chalmers and Simon Bensasson.
  • Mr Chalmers and Mr Bensasson's first premises were previously occupied by Clive Sinclair from where he had begun developing his range of low-cost home computers.
  • B&C's first product was a relational database management system for UNIX and DOS called Spires. It was named after the impressive view of King's College as seen from the office window.
  • The first version of LAMP used the Spires database to store its records. The latest release of LAMP is Version 7, which runs on Windows and uses SQL Server as its database.
